 Phisal’s first venture in Hotels and Resorts “Sandal Clouds” at Marayoor in Kerala is an authentic synonym for serenity with vicissitude.  A set of tales remain about the derivation of the word Marayoor, which includes the link from Epic Mahabharatha. It is said by the tribes that the Pandavas of Mahabharatha lived here during their exile. Thus got the name Maranjirunna Ooru which in the local language means the place used to hide.

Marayoor claims to be a part of the Stone Age Civilization that is as old as 10,000 B.C. The land and its unique Dolmens- the stone coffins, caves paintings, underground tunnels and rock engravings are a perfect study material for Archeology students. The studies reveal that the faded rock paintings seen here are painted with mixture of Sambar Deer blood and forest plant extracts.

Marayoor is the only place in Kerala that has a natural growth of Sandalwood trees.  The cold wind scented by sandal is a rejuvenating experience for Body, Mind and Soul. Agastyamuni (Hindu Mythological Saint) spend his last days in the sandalwood forest and predicted that the whole world will one day come to see the enchanting beauty of Marayoor and to enjoy the scented breeze of sandal forest. The other valuable trees growing in the forest are Teak, Rosewood and Deodars. The Forest Department has reared large Eucalyptus Plantations in the hilly tracts.
 The rare ‘Neelakurinji flower ’is indigenous to Marayoor. Neelakurinji is an exotic flowering plant that paints the hills blue when it blossoms once every 12 years.
The majority of inhabitants of Marayoor are tribes called Muthuvans and Hill Pulayans. The tribal population in Marayoor still preserves their unique Customs and Traditions. Agriculture is the main source of income for them all though some are engaged in Medicinal Plant collection from the forest and Fishing from the nearby rivers and streams.
Marayoor Jaggery is another specialty of Marayoor. A huge sector of the total cultivation at Marayoor is Sugarcane. The best quality jaggery in India is manufactured with this sugarcane extract by the residents of Marayoor in small factories located within the sugarcane farm.
 Ecotourism activities jointly organized by the forest department and the eco-development committees of the local tribal communities provides opportunity for the tourists to be more close to the nature exploring the intense forest and wildlife through different activities like River Side and Cultural Site trekking, Nature trail to the Watch Tower and Chinnar Valley, Trek to the roaring Thoovanam Falls, visit to Medicinal Garden and Stay at Log Houses .A freezing night in the tree house is an inexplicable and unparallel experience that the tribes alone enjoyed years back.
1 and half km towards the dense forest is the spectacular vista of roaring Thoovanam Water Falls. The cold and crystalline water of Pambar River forms the water falls at Thoovanam. It is the largest water fall at Marayoor. This water source is used by the inmates for irrigation purpose. Pambar river is one of the three East flowing rivers of Kerala while rest 41 flows towards West.
Other places of interest near to Marayoor are – Munnar, Kanthallor, Chinnar Wild Life Sanctuary and Mannavan Chola
